Set to release early this month are a couple of new models from famed Japanese denim house Momotaro Jeans. The 0305-18 is a heavyweight at 18 oz., but unlike other denim in the same weightclass, the 03015-18 jean is made of Zimbabwean cotton which is known for its naturally long staples resulting in a softer, easier feel.
They use an all-cotton thread for the sewing as well as a sheep-skin suede patch which is actually stitched with the waistband simultaneously rather than being sewn onto the waistband after the fact. They’ve made it in what they describe as a “tight taper” fit but they’ve also made the jean in a “natural taper” fit, the 0605-18. Other details include their signature peach-colored selvedge and inseam.
If you’re looking for something a little darker, Momotaro is also releasing their 0308-18B. It has all the same details as the 0305-18, but is made with an 18 oz. denim with an indigo warp and a black weft, also in Zimbabwean cotton. The resulting fades will be more intense and not something you see everyday.
